Vistalba
Pacáni Tambú was the name firstly given by the huarpe ancestors community to the current
Vistalba since it meant shelter of the dawn or view of the dawn.

Around 1880, Vistalba became increasingly popular among italian inmigrants as a place to put down roots and even vines for the high quality of its soils and microclimate.

The car racings “Viña y Sierra” boosted, in the mid 60’s, the fame of the locality conquerred by the driving skills of the brothers Gálvez and García who used to compete on these tracks.

The noisy and hectic city then quickened the pace of Vistalba’s popularity as a residencial district to root. Consequently local authorities gave priority to urban planning to preserve this area as the “lungs of Luján” in so much crops and the hundred-year old olive trees are priceless.

Con el advenimiento de Benegas los historiadores consideran que se inicia el período de mayor progreso en cuanto a irrigación se refiere, mejorando y aumentando la infraestructura existente.

En esos días una de las tantas crecidas periódicas del río Mendoza termina por afectar la toma del zanjón, dejando sin agua los cultivos por varios días. El hecho no hizo más que acelerar la decisión de construir un dique en el lecho del río. De esa forma, y aprovechando la estada del mendocino Villanueva en París, el Gobernador Benegas le recomendó la búsqueda y contratación de un experimentado ingeniero hidráulico para estudiar y proyectar las obras necesarias.
