La
Puntilla
The
origin of the name of this district is not absolutely certain. Some say
it stems from the surname "los puntillosos" ("the delicated
ones") , that was how the neigbors used to call an important number
of wealthy famillies who chose to settle down at this place.
Airplane
Club in La Puntilla
This term would refer to "la crème de la crème
" of the society, and it also means in spanish "brodery"
so it could have been linked to the clothes this people used to
wear. Others assume this has a geographical explanation as La
Puntilla means "the Edge" as it is located on the border
of the first hills before los Andes.
La Puntilla is featured as a fresh and residential neighborhood
with beautiful colonial mansions. Such characteristics represent
attractive assets for foreign and national tourists.
Its chapel, built in 1760, founds its origins in the Mercedaria
Order .
La Puntilla is a crossing point on the Pan-American route between
Chile and Mendoza.
"The facilities of the Mendoza Airplane
Club, are located on a plateau of the surrounding mountainous
area. This place is frequently used for mechanical flights in
the province".
