Luján Town
After different historical events -among colonial occupations- the Town and the Department share the same name: Luján de Cuyo. Firstly called Luján of the Vines, the town changed its name, in 1964, into “Luján de Cuyo” in order to distinguish itself from other localities of the Republic.

The town has witnessed important social and historical events such as the visit of European nobility.

During the English invasions
(1806 and 1807)

The English prisoners in Mendoza were taken to Luján square because the jail was previously established in Mayor Drummond District.

As the prisoners used to play music and entertained traditional local families at special events, they naturally gave birth to the first orchestra of the Province.
